Having almost completed its $100m make-over, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai has announced the debut of three of the largest and most luxurious ocean-front vacation villas in the whole of Hawaii.
Already in situ at Four Seasons Hualalai, the Hawaii Loa Presidential Villas, Makaloa Villas and Ho‘onanea Villas are currently being transformed by the skilled team at San Francisco-based architecture and design firm, Bamo. More than just a face-lift, each is expanding to include a second level and will also feature new private plunge pools and indoor-outdoor living spaces, meticulously decorated using fine natural materials and local art.
The smallest of the three, the 2,600-sq-ft Ho‘onanea Villa will be available in one-, two, or three-bedroom configurations. Offering direct access to the beach, the renovation sees the addition of a second-level sundeck and open living space that leads to an expansive full-length lanai with a private pool, spa, daybed and firepit.
The dreamy Makaloa Villa, named after the tropical plant native to the island, will keep its status as the most secluded villa at the Four Seasons Hualalai thanks to its location at the edge of the resort’s tranquil Waiakauhi Pond. With the air of a Hawaiian beach house, the three- to five-bedroom luxury villa is the epitome of relaxed indoor-outdoor living featuring an expanded lawn, private pool, spa and hammock.
Unobstructed ocean views via the wall-to-ceiling windows and a new second-level master bedroom and living area with oceanfront terrace are amongst some of the new additions. And while the downstairs bedrooms might not have their own verandas, they do offer the added bonus of their own private outdoor lava rock-showers.
The resort’s pièce de résistance however is the sprawling 5,500-sq-ft Hawaii Loa Presidential Villa set right at the oceanside. The renovation sees an expansive second-level living space and exquisite master suite added. Tucked away from the rest of the villa, the master bed and bath feature walls of windows opening onto a full-length ocean-facing terrace. The ensuite’s indulgent freestanding bathtub might just be the most indulgent spot in the whole resort to watch the sunset.
There are a further three bedrooms and sweeping ocean views can also be enjoyed on the lower level from the open plan living area and deck which offers direct access to the beach.
With the resort positioned on a pristine stretch of the Kona-Kohala coastline, Four Seasons Hualalai has been dedicated to ocean and marine preservation throughout its renovation. This includes the debut of the Kumu Kai Center at King’s Pond which is helmed by a team of six on-site marine biologists led by Hawaiian-born David Chai, the resort’s director of natural resources. The center will offer guests the chance to learn about the importance of ocean preservation through interactive experiences such as eagle ray feeding and the Ocean Life Exploration experience.
